Dewey Nelle was born to Clair William Brown (born in Nebraska) and her mother Freeda Alice "Eckles" (born in Marysville, Missouri). She was born in Rawlins county, KS, north of Levant, Thomas county, KS. in 1918.
Dewey had one brother I.N. Brown, born in 1911 and died in 1968. One sister Leslie "Brown" Sullivan, born in 1926.
Dewey Nelle Brown married Joe Classi in Los Angeles, CA., in 1939.
To this union were born three children: one daughter Teri Nadine, born in Los Angeles, CA in 1940, two sons, Jerry Joe born in Los Angeles, CA in 1942 and Anthony Clair born in Goodland, KS in 1950.
They moved to the northwest Kansas area in 1943.
In 1961 they bought and started the Grocery store. In 1974 Joe died, Dewey Nelle determined to stay in business carried on until November 1981, when she closed the store. Classi's were in the grocery business for 35 years, 4 months, and a few days.
During the month of December, they would have fresh cut Christmas trees in their grocery store basement. They would let families go down and pick their own trees out. That was always a joy for the children of Brewster to look forward to, every year.
In 1974 Dewey Nelle purchased the building next door to the grocery store, where Bea's Cafe had been. After remodeling, she opened "The Store Next Door" gifts, plants, and a gathering place for coffee and visiting. She sold this business in 1981. After 35 years of serving the public she wanted to go on a permanent vacation. She purchased a home in Cedaridge, Colorado where she spent most of her time fishing, camping, and exploring in the summers and playing duplicate bridge and pool in the winters. As a hobby she raised sheep and banties (to save on mowing) and lots of Colorado peaches as well as a large garden every year.
Dewey Nelle and all three of her children graduated from Brewster High School.
