Ida Mason Christy was born in Lineville, Iowa on February 17, 1863 to Josiah and Hannah Binford(Cloyd}Christy. She was the 7th of 11 children. She first married Walter DeGarmo on October 18, 1887. She married again in Marquette, Wyoming on December 22, 1898 to Frank Lee Houx. During her marriage to Frank he would serve as Govenor of Wyoming and she and family would live in the State House in Cheyenne. She was very active in woman's rights and led the cause in Wyoming for prohibition. After Frank's tenure as Gov. she remained in Cheyenne for years and ran a boarding house. Prior to her death, her eyesight greatly failing, she moved to Redlands to live with daughter, Vera. According to her death certificate she died on May 14, 1934 in Redlands even though her headstone reads 1933.
