R. L. SPARKS PIONEER FRUIT RANCHER PASSES AWAY
Robert L. Sparks passed away in the Leavenworth hospital Wednesday at the age of 80.
He was born May 3, 1874 in Brookville, Pennsylvania. He grew to manhood in Pennsylvania and came west to Washington in 1897. He lived on the west side for a while and came to Leavenworth where he was a salesman for the Great Northern Lumber Company for several years.
He married Ellen Ryan November 15, 1921 in Portland, Oregon. Following their marriage they came to Peshastin in 1921 and operated a fruit ranch there until 1946 when they moved to Leavenworth.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce Taylor of Puyallup and Mrs. Albert Miller of Hollywood, California; one son, Howard Sparks, Bellingham; three grandchildren; one brother, D. D. Sparks, Colorado; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Jordan, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Flora Dolling, Oregon, Mrs. Dolly Jordon of Oklahoma.
Funeral services for Mr. Sparks will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the Kuelbs and Braun Funeral Chapel in Cashmere, Rev. Max Wills officiating. During the services Mrs. John Horey will sing accompanied by Lethal Main. Burial will be in the Cashmere Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be John McCoy, Henry Woldtvet, Herb Dye, D. R. Moody, Hy Rieke and George Burgett.
