He went to the Civil War when twenty years of age. He served from Oct. 12, 1864, till July 21, 1865, as a private in Company E, 85th regiment, Indiana infantry, and as a private in Company H, 33d regiment.
After the war he resumed his occupation as a farmer and when twenty-four years old married Elizabeth J. Payne, who was born and reared in Jackson township. To this union were born two girls. Pearl and F'lorretta. The latter died when small. The family moved to Jackson township about 1870, where Mrs. McAnally died June 24, 1906.
