Kenneth J. Gates, a resident of Valley View Nursing Home, Altoona, died November 7, 2000 at Valley View. Born May 5, 1911, in Frugality, son of the late Frank and Myrtle (MacLucas) Gates. He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn, a grandson, a granddaughter, and a sister, Rebecca Craig. He is survived by his wife, the former Stella Donoughe, whom he married on Oct 26, 1930, at St Joseph Catholic Church, Coupon. He is survived by these children: Colleen (married to Dan Minori); Jo Ann (married to Emil Minori); Wayne (married to Jean Rourk); Marian (married to William Mentch); 18 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter. Mr Gates was the last member of his immediate family. He worked in the coal mines and clay mines in Dean for 15 years, and retired as a clerk from the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1975, after 33 years of service. He was a member of St Mark Catholic Church, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Committal in the Calvary Cemetery. (Altoona Mirror, November 9, 2000)
