Leslie E. Buzard, 75, a resident of Cashmere for the past 51 years, died early Thursday morning at Central Washington Hospital. He was born March 2, 1909 at Gridley, and was raised in Illinois, marrying Leorna Lesher. They moved to California and Kelso, then to Cashmere in 1933. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army, seeing action in Africa and Europe with the engineers. Mr. Buzard returned to Cashmere following his discharge and worked for the Cashmere Fruit Exchange until his retirement in 1973. He then worked for Blue Star Growers.
Mr. Buzard was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Wenatchee Eagles No. 204 and Cashmere American Legion Post No. 64.
Survivors include a daughter, Bernice Butler, Sepulveda, Calif., a brother, Otis O. Buzard, Wenatchee; a sister, Althia Bundy, Hammond, three grandchildren; four great grandchildren ; and a close friend, Josephine Regan, Cashmere.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Braun Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Biornstad officiating. Gale Slechta sang The Old Rugged Cross and "The Lords Prayer" with Earl Barnes as organist. Burial took place in the Cashmere Cemetery with Colors presented by Cashmere American Legion Post No. 64. Pallbearers were Vein Sollinger, Ray Regan, Ken Buzard, Larry McDonald, Henry Hoefner and Jack Knowles. The Braun Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
