Wenatchee World - Aug 23, 2002

Barbara Jewell (Spears) Loudenback passed away peacefully Aug. 21, 2002 after courageously fighting her way back from three strokes in the last 18 months. She succumbed to complications from her fourth stroke.

Barbara was born in Cashmere to Thomas and Angie Spears on Aug. 14, 1925. She was the youngest of six children. She grew up in Cashmere, graduating from Cashmere High School. She was Cashmere's Apple Blossom Princess in her senior year. Barbara went on to become a bookkeeper. She held various bookkeeping and office management positions until her retirement in 1983. Barbara enjoyed traveling. In the last few years, her bridge club had become her passion. She even continued playing bridge after her strokes.

Barbara had a good sense of humor and a quick wit. She also enjoyed a good adventure. One of her favorite stories was of "buzzing" her parent's house in an old biplane a friend flew. Her parents really gave her "what for" for scaring them.

Family was always first and foremost in her life. She kept us all together in a wonderfully strong extended family.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister; also by her husband, James, and her daughter, Julie Anne.

Surviving is her daughter, Jill (John) Siu; her son Jay (Deonna) Loudenback; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be Friday, Aug. 23, 2002 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Braun Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, 11 a.m. at the Cashmere City Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Braun Funeral Home, Cashmere.
