Daisie Spears Tait, born on June 9th, 1914 in Baird, Washington, was called home to God on July 29, 2003 while resting peacefully at home. She was one of six children born to Thomas and Angie Spears.
Daisie moved to Cashmere when she was eight years old. She is a graduate of the Cashmere High School Class of 1932 and she went on to attend Washington State University where she majored in Education.
In 1923, she returned home to care for her family and began her career in telephone operations.
She worked as a telephone operator, and then Chief Telephone Operator for the Interstate Telephone Company of Wenatchee and in 1940 transferred to the Wenatchee Telephone Company.
When World War II broke out in 1943 she joined the war effort in Seattle, where she worked at the Boeing Company Plant 2 and at the IBM business machine office. Daisie returned home once again to Cashmere in 1948 and resumed her telephone company work, again being promoted to Chief Operator.
On July 21, 1951 Daisie married Leonard Tait of Wenatchee.
They moved to Cashmere where they built their life long home on Mission Creek Road. They had three lovely children, David, Leanne, and Sheryl. While raising her family Daisie worked as packing foreman for Cascoa Growers and Pioneer Warehouse.
She retired from that position in 1982.
But, "retirement" was not a word Daisie understood. In her many years of "relaxation" Daisie worked as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Cashmere Federated Women's Club, The Degree of Honor Society, the Young Women's Christian Association, and the Cashmere First Baptist Church.
Her tireless volunteer work extended to the Cashmere Museum where she was a greeter and docent, she made hundreds of lap robes for disabled veterans, and she worked at the YWCA estate sales. In her spare time, she loved to sew, crochet, fish, play bingo, play bridge, attend her bunko parties, go to her coffee clatch and her potluck club dinners. In fact, her children always joke that they had to call ahead and get on her schedule to come and visit!
Daisie Spears Tait was preceded in death by her husband Leonard. She is survived by her son, David Tait and his wife Karen; her daughter, Leanne Shirey and her husband Dean; her daughter, Sheryl Ercanbrack and her husband Tom; grandsons, Brandon Bates and Trey Ercanbrack; and her brother, Beve Spears and his wife Vi; and many other members of her extended family.
Daisie was loved by not only her extended family, but by her entire community. Her passing will be heartfelt and is a personal loss to all of us.
A funeral service will be held in Daisie's honor on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Cashmere First Baptist Church at 103 S. Division Street in Cashmere. A graveside service will follow at Cashmere City Cemetery. A time of visitation will be Friday, August 1, 2003 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Braun Funeral Home. Arrangements are entrusted to Braun Funeral Home. Memorials should be sent to the charity of the sender's choice
