Lancaster March 29, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg May 4 as a private with Co. K, 187th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company August 3, 1865. His father served in the same company and regiment.
After the war, he married Louisa Comfort and fathered Henry C. "Harry" (b. 09/??/67), Charles Seitz (b. 08/06/75), George Washington (b. 08/23/76 - Sp-Am War vet), Kate V. (b. 12/??/79), Viola B. (b. @1882), Anna M. (b. 1885 - married Edwin J. Schulz), and Joseph B. (b. 1889).
