The son of Christian C. & Catharine (Klinger) Geiter, in 1860 he was a laborer living with his family in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 2" tall and had dark hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he first served as a private with Co A, 50th Pennsylvania Militia, during the Gettysburg crisis, enlisting in early July 1863 and honorably discharging with his company August 15, 1863. He then enlisted in
Lancaster March 29, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg May 4 as a private with Co. K, 187th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company August 3, 1865. His father served in the same company and regiment.

After the war, he married Louisa Comfort and fathered Henry C. "Harry" (b. 09/??/67), Charles Seitz (b. 08/06/75), George Washington (b. 08/23/76 - Sp-Am War vet), Kate V. (b. 12/??/79), Viola B. (b. @1882), Anna M. (b. 1885 - married Edwin J. Schulz), and Joseph B. (b. 1889).

Geiter's death certificate lists his cause of death as "acute dilatation of heart - sudden death" but istakenly
claims a 1922 death year, an obvious clerical error.
