Eli Jordan was born to the union of Gregory Joseph Jordan and Zilphine Holifield. He was married twice. He first married Arrenia "Rena" Peoples (1840 - 1864) about 1858 in Jasper or Smith County, MS. She was born to the union of William Peoples Jr. and Ellender Arrenia "Renie" Evans. Rena died during the Civil War. She was the mother of William Marion Jordan and Thomas Jefferson Jordan. Eli married second Susan "Susie" Crawford about 1865 in Winn Parish, LA. She was the mother of all of his other children.
