Mrs. Elbert Gano
Mrs. Elbert Gano of Milford, whose death occurred last Friday afternoon from pneumonia after a brief illness leaves a sadly stricken home and is sincerely mourned by a large circle of relative and intimate friends.
She was twice married, her first husband was D.M. Saxton who at the time of his death was the confidential clerk of the late Hon David Wilber. They had one daughter, Mrs. D. Stephen Downing of Cleveland Ohio. In 1874 she was united in marriage with Elbert Gano of Middlefield. Besides the husband and daughter above mentioned she is survived by two daughters and one son Mrs. C. I Stiles of Cooperstown, Clara, now teaching in Schuyler Lake and Paul of Pasadena, California; also one brother and one sister, Ames Hawver of Oneonta and Mrs. J.E. Smith of Milford.
She was a lady of exalted Christian character, devoted to the home and all its interests and her kindly influence will long be felt, not only by the intermediate survivors but all who came within the circle of her acquaintance.
The largely attended funeral held at the residence Monday at one o'clock, together with the many floral offerings, evidence, in part, the high esteem in which she was held. Her pastor, Rev. W.H. Alger spoke words of consolation and hope to he stricken ones.
Richard Palmer sang most impressively, "He leadeth me" and "Abide with me" and she was laid at rest in Westville cemetery.
