Born in New Bern, Craven County, N.C., August 11, 1859. Son of Richard Nixon Taylor and Susan (Stevenson) Taylor; brother of Hannis Taylor; married 1882 to Helen Billingsley Buck. Vice-president and general manager, Mobile & Ohio Railroad; headed federalized railroads in three states during World War I; mayor of Mobile, Ala., 1922-24, 1933-34, 1936-37; member, Interstate Commerce Commission, 1926-29. Baptist. Died in Point Clear, Baldwin County, Ala., December 22, 1939.
