Allen served as a Sergeant with the 19th Pennsylvania Militia, Company A (Civil War).

Judge Allen Craig was born in Lehigh Gap, PA., Carbon County PA. He was the son of Capt. Thomas and Catherine (Hagenbach) Craig. Allen was the grandson of General Thomas Craig. Census
He was the husband of Anna I. (Douglas) Craig. They had at least 4 children. 2 Girls: Hattie and Gay, 2 boys Douglas and Harry. Gay died at age 30 years.
The 1850 Census shows Allen’s parents as Thomas and Catherine. It also showed that he had siblings Thomas, John, William, and Robert.
Craig graduated from Lafayette College and in 1855. He then study law under Hon. Milo M. Dommick. In June 1858, he was admitted to the bar at Mauch Chunk.
According to his Civil War Draft Card, he was a unmarried attorney, age 28, for Mauch Chunk under Capt. Samuel Yoke June in 1863.
In 1859.he was elected District Atty. Of Carbon Co. for 3 years. In 1865, he was elected to represent Carbon and Monroe Counties in the State Legislature.
On May 9, 1873, Allen age 38 applied for a passport #30702 listing his wife as Bella D. age 29. Allen was described having grey eyes, height at 5’7”, fair complexion, and auburn hair.
In 1878 he was elected as a State senator representing Carbon, Monroe, & Pike Counties. In 1893, he was elected Judge of the Forty-third Judicial District.
He was appointed as Trustee & superintended the erection of the Dimmick Memorial Library Building. He served a short time in the Civil War in 1862 with the 19th PA Inf. Dedicated a monument to Union Defenders of the Union from Carbon Co. He was a Director of the First National Bank of Mauch Chunk, PA and also with water and gas companies.
The First Presbyterian Church of Panther Valley in Summit Hill recorded his death in their records. His was buried in Mauch Chunk. A date calculator puts his age at death at 67 years and 7 days. Bio by…Peggy Spengler-Moser.
