Velma "LaRue" Vance Mower waited patiently for 37 years to rejoin her belvoed husband, Cleston.
She passed away suddenly Monday in her Bountiful home and was embraced by "the one true love" of her life in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
She was 74 and she will be deeply missed.
The mother of 10 children, whom she raised single-handedly after the death of her husband in October 1955, LaRue will always be remembered for the Christ-like love she showed everyone around her.
She was a poet and an artisan. A book of her poems, "A Little Bit of Me" was published in 1983.
Don't weep for me when I am gone,
Don't sit around and sigh.
Don't pass my bier and shed a tear
and ask the reason why.
Just try to think of just one thing
I did while here below
that made the world a better place,
then I'll be glad to go.
The world, however, is a far sadder place because of her passing.
Born in Fairview, Utah on May 15, 1918 to Myron Alma and Sarah Elizabeth Talbot Vance.
She married Cleston Max Mower in Price Nov. 14, 1935; marriage later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
He died 20 years later.
She was a graduate of North Sanpete High School and Stevens-Henager College of Business.
Gifted in many areas, her poetry, programs, knitting and crocheting were talents shared by family and friends alike.
LaRue worked in the school lunch program in Davis County and was employed in the Presiding Bishopric's Office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 17 years.
She was instrumental in organizing the South Davis Primary for the Handicapped, active in the South Davis Area Mutual for the Handicapped and helped build the Monte Vista Diagnostic Center for disabled and handicapped people.
She is survived by her children, Mrs. Sharon (Ray) Madsen, Bountiful; Mrs. Pat (Richard) Rawlins, Bountiful; Mrs. Marlene (Merlyn) Powell, Millville; Kerry Mower, Bountiful; Scott (Kathy) Mower, Sandy; Clark (Sandy) Mower, Farmington; Kirk (Mary) Mower, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Janean (Larry) Blake, St. George; Richard King Mower, Bountiful; and a sister, Beulah Stewart, Kearns; 35 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan; two granddaughters, Lisa and Ruby; and brothers, George, Abe and Keith.
Friends may meet with the family at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, Thursday, July 16, from 7-8 p.m.
The funeral will be held Friday, 11 a.m. in the Bountiful 11th Ward Chapel, 2000 South Orchard Drive.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Fairview City Cemetery.
