HASSELL COLLINS SR.
U.S. Army veteran of World War II
Hassell Collins Sr., 86, of Wise, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 8, 2006) at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a retired carpenter and was of the Philadelphia Church of God faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mae Collins; a daughter, Wanda Addington; his parents, Elbert and Etsy Schoolcraft Collins; and two brothers, Waldo Collins and Olen Collins.
Surviving are three daughters, Uva Pearl Branham of Richmond, Lana Dollarhyde of Broad Run and Etsy Moore of Wise; six sons, Marvin F. Collins, Stanley G. Collins, Hassell Collins Jr., Christopher M. Collins and Scott Collins all of Wise and Barry J. Collins of Bealton; one brother of Orlando Collins, Jenkins, Ky.; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Calling hours were held Sunday, Feb. 12, at Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise. Services followed at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dovie Sowards and friends speaking.
Burial and graveside committal services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap.
