In the late evening of May 1, 2001, Ada Belle Jenkins Curtis, 92, beautifully and peacefully slipped the bonds of mortality to join the family she has long loved and waited to join. She left her surviving family with a great legacy of love.
She is and will be remembered always as our loving mother, Nana, NanaGreat and grandmother. She succumbed to the ravages of osteoporosis and causes incident to age. She endured with dignity the trial of pain and suffering her Father in heaven chose for her during the past few months of her life.
Her life has spanned nearly a century. She was born Oct. 6, 1908, in Vernal, Utah, the fourth of 11 children to Samuel Archie Jenkins and Tina Lucretia McCurdy. She married her eternal sweetheart, Carl Andrew Curtis, on June 15, 1926, in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a member of the LDS Church and was a great contributor to the Bingham Canyon and Copperton Wards, as well as the West Jordan Stake. Throughout the years she served in the Relief Society and Primary. She and her husband were called and faithfully served a mission in the West Jordan Stake. More recently she has been an adopted and well-loved member of the Hunter 10th Ward. She has a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and knows that her Redeemer lives. She was a resident of Bingham Canyon from 1926 to 1941 and a resident of Copperton for 58 years. She affiliated with the Bingham Canyon Women's Civic Club and the Copperton Study Guild, serving in many leadership capacities and brought to fruition much good through community service. She enjoyed the sweet association of the Bingham Canyon Lions Club through her husband's membership.
She endured the last few months of her life with dignity, grace and kindness, which were her attributes to the end of her earthly mission. She has now completed the work she was sent forth to do.
Preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters Laura, Bessie, Cora, Christine, Lola, Dora and Lydia; brothers Lee, Edward and Dee. She is survived by her children, Patricia (Keith) Shosted, West Valley City, and Gary (Deanne) Curtis, Copperton; her grandchildren, Craig (Marfy), Erick (Shelly) and Ryan Shosted, Lisa A. Smith (Jason), Todd, Andrew and Aaron (Emilie) Curtis; great-grandchildren, Christopher Luis, Wyatt Keith and Curtis Erick Shosted and Nicole Elise Smith; sisters-in-law Lois Mortensen, Clara Jenkins, Beth Jenkins and Thelma Jenkins, and many loving nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews. She has touched the lives of four generations and will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her. Goodbye until we meet again. We love you and will miss you.
