Walter Leland Reiman, age 79, passed away peacefully in his sleep September 20, 2008. He was at the Odessa German Festival, doing what he loved to do. Walt was born in Dryden, September 20, 1929, to Sol and Katherine Reiman. He was the youngest of ten children. He went to school in Dryden, graduating from Dryden High School in 1947. He was a hard worker and at a young age he worked at Dryden Independent Warehouse, making wooden boxes. When the weekends would come, he and his friends would hike into the high lakes, camp all weekend and hike out just in time to start working again. He married Peggy Stevens in 1951. Their first adventure together was owning and running the Dryden store. After they sold the store, he began driving a fish truck from Seattle to sell fish. He started working at Rocky Reach Dam as a fishway attendant and retired in 1991. A week after he was married, he was drafted and deployed to Korea. He was there for one year and fought on the front lines. From the start, he was involved in his community. He and a few other men ran cable up Blag Mountain, giving Dryden their first taste of TV. He helped start the volunteer fire department and was Fire Commissioner for a year. He loved holidays, especially Christmas. He was planning all year, the things he would need to decorate his house. He even put speakers on top of his house, playing Christmas music so the whole town of Dryden could enjoy. He loved to cook and could easily order and cook for over 100 people. Crab feeds, oyster feeds, cooking for community fundraisers, you name it, he could cook it. He and a few friends started the Dryden Gun Club and made it what it is today. Walt was also known for his gardening and homemade sausage. He made friends with everyone he met and would always be there for them. His greatest love was for his wife, children and grandchildren. His common phrase was, "I love you with all my heart" and you knew he meant it. He is survived by his four daughters, Debbie (Ron) Farnsworth of Dryden, Dena (Tom) Whaley of Dryden, Denise (Randy) McCarver of East Wenatchee and Shelly Reiman of Dryden; grandchildren, Niki, Jeremy, Bryan, Kendra, Jamie and Damion "Jack", the lights of his life; his brothers, Dan and Melvin Reiman; one sister, Bette Coon; and many nieces, nephews and friends; and his guard dog, Baily Rose. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; a son, Timothy; two brothers, Herman and Otto Reiman; and four sisters, Gerty Botts, and Vera, Wilma and Ester Reiman. At Walt's orders, there will be no Funeral, but a Celebration of his Life will be held at the Dryden Gun Club on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. with a potluck and stories of Walt. Memorial donations may be made in Walt's name to the Dryden Gun Club or Dryden Improvement Club.
