JUSTIN SCOTT VAUGHN

Justin Scott Vaughn, 16, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 15, 2004 after being involved in a tragic car accident. He was born June 16, 1988 in Harlingen, Texas. Justin was going to start his Junior year at Harlingen High School the day after his accident.

Justin was a great son, grandson, great-grandson, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. He has left a major void in many hearts and his presence will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.

My son has started on his new Journey to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Although difficult to understand, we must all come to realize that he is in a better place and that he was chosen to be an Angel in Heaven looking over on us. I find no other way to draw some kind of comfort than from recognizing again and again. "Justin is with the Lord." I need to frequently recall that fact to my mind and heart to reinforce my faith that Justin is with the Lord and that he will never leave him. Knowing this does not eliminate the grief, but it makes it more bearable to realize that God never abandons us for even a moment of life or death.

As many of you know, Justin brought joy and laughter to the lives of everyone he knew. He had a kind loving heart and he cared for so many. Justin was not prejudice in any form or fashion; his friends were of every race, color and origin. He had a unique way of touching the lives of those around him in one way or another. For such a young person, Justin always let his feelings be known to me (his mom), and to all his aunts, uncles cousins, friends, etc...Justin was never embarrassed to embrace any of us with a hug and a kiss. Whether he was being dropped off in front of the School or being dropped off or picked up at a friends house, he always smiled and said, "I Love You". When things didn't go his way and he was upset, he would always end up making me laugh before getting out of the car or walking out of the door so we would not part being angry at one another. He always said (and this is a true fact), "Mom, don't be mad because you never know what might happen". He definitely knew how to tug on moms heart strings, and of course it always worked!

Justin was so full of life and lived it to the fullest. Since at a young age he always enjoyed riding go carts, dirt bikes, four wheelers, and jet skis at the Island. He was also very mechanically inclined. I'll never forget the time when I was having problems with the break lights of my vehicle. The little bulbs had to constantly be changed out because they kept burning out. I thought it was the wiring to the light or something complicated and expensive, basically I had no clue. None the less, one day Justin and I were getting ready to go somewhere and as I backed up he said, "mom your break light on the left is out". At that point I told him, "you know we have changed it out I don't know how many times". He came over to my door and said, "let me check something out". He started laughing out loud and said, "Helloooooo, it's just a fuse mom it's no big deal". Boy did I feel stupid, but we sure did have a good laugh.

Justin loved working with his hands and he was so talented that he never ceased to amaze any of us. Which brings to mind another funny story. When we lived on Dilworth Road we had a riding lawn mower and it was just about ready to give out on us. Eventually I had to park it in the garage and had to hire my moms yard man to cut the lawn (an acre) every two weeks. One day as I was cooking supper, Justin said "mom I'll be playing outside, call me when the food is ready". He was approximately nine years old at the time. He had also made it a point to close the picture window curtains that faced our backyard. I'll never forget when I started to call him in to come and eat, I couldn't find him. As I went over to the back of the house, there was Justin cruising around the back yard with this riding lawn mower that we couldn't get to move. He fixed it to where the blades stayed up and he had somehow rigged it up with a string that he tied on to the gas pedal. Let me tell you, he was cruising around like there was no tomorrow with that tractor and loving every minute of it. Of course I blew up at him, and called Melissa to come and check this out, she tried to get angry too, but within seconds we all ended up cracking up about the whole situation. He thought it was the coolest thing ever. I ended up selling the riding lawn mower to our yard man, and Justin was not a happy camper. Of course Justin loved cars too; old and new alike. Justin could tell you what kind of motor a car had that was coming from a mile away (as if I needed to know this info)he always wanted me to learn all this stuff, and really and truly he would amaze me.

There is so much more to say about our dear Justin that I could go on forever. I just want for those of you who knew him to have a tiny bit more insight at what a wonderful son I had. He may not have always made the right choices throughout his lifetime, but I don't think any of us have always made the right choices. I believe that is how we learn about life in general by our mistakes. We are only human and should not judge or be judged, that we leave up to our Lord Jesus Christ.

I would like to Thank everyone that was there for us, as well as Justin's friends and loved ones who joined us in seeing Justin off on his new Journey with our Heavenly Father and the Angels in Heaven. The love and compassion will never be forgotten. Justin will be in our hearts forever and ever.

To the Pallbearers who were some of Justin's closest friends; Frank Robles, Jr., Miguel Marquez, Eddie Garcia, Eric Flores, Steven Cavins, David Mireles, Michael Medrano, Michael Valdez, Jonathan Amaya, and Justin Pirkle:

Guys, you were the best. Eddie, I want to especially thank you for getting all the guys together for me (in a matter of minutes) and for not hesitating even one second when I asked if you would read the Eulogy. I will never forget that as long as I live. You read beautifully sweetheart and I know that Justin loved it! You are his true brother.

Frank Robles, you were always there for Justin and I will never forget you and your family and all the crazy things you guys would do. Thank you so much for the Mustang Book. I know it was Justin's favorite book to check out when he would go over to your house. I will cherish it forever and ever. Every time I'm feeling sad and missing Justin, I start going through the book and read the awesome messages you guys wrote. You all are awesome guys, and once again "Thank You".

I know this was one of the hardest things you guys have ever done, I know it's the hardest thing that I have ever done too, but once again you were there for him. God Bless you and may he help you find peace within and again allow you all to realize that he is in a better place with our Lord Jesus and we will all be together again when our time comes.
