OBITUARY:

Paul Thomas "Tom" Gaskin, 62, of Terre Haute died at 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

He retired from Sheet Metal Workers Local 20 after 35 years of service, and he was the owner of Gaskin Gardens Greenhouse.

He was born July 17, 1942, in Owen County to James H. Gaskin and Dorothy M. McDaniel Gaskin.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Verna Jean DeBaun Gaskin; one daughter, Jennifer L. Gaskin of Terre Haute; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Robin Stuckey Gaskin of Terre Haute and Jason and Jill Davis Gaskin of Lewis; three grandsons, Jeffrey Michael, Dakota William, and Ridge Lee; his mother, Dorothy Gaskin of Pimento; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Fern Stewart of Farmersburg and Ruth and Lloyd Dalton of Clay City; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Shirley Gaskin of Pimento and John and Margie Gaskin of Danville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Gaskin; his father and mother-in-law, Vernon "Buster" DeBaun and Oveline Wible DeBaun; and one daughter, Paula Jean Gaskin.

He was a 1960 graduate of Pimento High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 20 and a member and past president of Wabash Valley Master Gardeners Association. He also was former assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 339. He enjoyed farming and gardening.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with Ed Gladish and the Rev. Eugene Kent officiating. Burial is in Pogue Cemetery, with military graveside services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Lawton-Byrum Post 972. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
