Charles was the son of Henry Crooks (1845 OH) and Mary E Hoyt. He married Carrie Shipman on 12 March 1902 in Jefferson, Greene, Iowa. They did not have children.

Aug 27, 1956 - Carroll Daily Times - Scranton - Charles Crooks, 87, of Jefferson, former Greene County auditor, died early Sunday morning. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Allie Smelscer of Jefferson.

His wife preceded him in death. The body is at the Huffman Funeral in Scranton, awaiting completion of arrangements.


Aug 30, 1956 - Carroll Daily Times - Funeral services for Charles E. Crooks, 87, of Jefferson, former Greene County auditor, were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Huffman Funeral Home in Scranton. The Rev. Robert M. Parris of Scranton officiated. Mary Sue Hanna of Scranton was vocal soloist and Mrs. Allen Mosier of Scranton, pianist.

Burial was in the Jefferson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Maloney of the Jefferson State Bank and Merle Kroesen, Carlton Henning, Charles Cleveland, L.G. Grant and Ralph Richmond, Greene County courthouse officials.

Mr. Crooks died early Sunday morning. Preceded in death by his wife, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Allie Smelscer of Jefferson.
