DEATH NOTICE: The Manti Messenger, Friday 2 January 1914:
SUPERINTENDENT NELSON

State Superintendant, A. C. Nelson died at his home in Salt Lake Christmas night from the effect of cancer, with which he has suffered for the past 23 years. Operation after operation had been performed by the best skilled surgeons in the land, and while they prolonged his stay on earth, they could not affect a cure. He was an indefagitable worker in educational matters. This state is largely indebted to him for its educational standing, and during the last few years his work reached out over many other states and he became a recognized national influence in all educational work.

Sanpete county felt an additional pride in Supt. Nelson as he was a Sanpete production, having been born in Ephraim, and he lived his earlier life in this county, much of the time in Manti, where he resided when he was elected to the office of state superintendent. He was well known in every district in the county, in which his loss will be felt as a personal misfortune. It seems too bad that such a man should be called from a station he was filling so admirably.
