Son of Levi Lewis, Sr. and Bethiah Lumbard. Husband of 1) Emily Hotchkiss, and 2) Catherine Fisher. Norman Lewis was a cabinet maker and at one time operated saw mills in Ripton and Rutland, Vermont.

Quoting his obituary:
"Norman Lewis was born in Wells, Vermont, Feb. 6, 1807, and was married to Emily Hotchkiss Dec.27, 1827. Six children blessed his home, all of whom survive him except the first- a daughter- who died in infancy. He has been a consistent member of the Congregational church since his early manhood, having been a regular attendant of its ordinances until the infirmity of years prevented, acting as deacon for about thirty years. He lived in Vermont until the year 1878 when he moved to Iowa, locating at Genoa Bluff, where he lived until after the death of his wife, who departed this life July 27, 1883. He made his home with his daughter, Mrs. E.H. Matterson [Emily], moving with her to his farm near Marengo in 1890. He was again united in marriage to Mrs. Catherine Fisher April 14, 1893, and died at his home Feb. 7, 1895, aged 88 years and 1 day. The funeral services occurred at the Congregational church at Genoa Bluff Feb. 10, where the Rev. C.W. Stark spoke to a large congregation from 1 Cor. 15:35. 'But some man will say, how are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?' One by one they bid us goodby, but we hope to meet them all again. The interment took place at the Genoa Bluff cemetery."

The children of Norman and Emily Lewis were: Levi, Egbert, Franklin Gifford, George Washington, and Emily. George Washington Lewis was the son-in-law of Norman's second wife, Catherine Fisher.
