MARION - Mrs. Helen Lane Atkinson, 87, wife of David J. Atkinson, Sr., died Friday, October 28, 2005 at Marion Nursing Center after an illness. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30 in Rose Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Darrell Floyd, officiating. The services will be directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Atkinson was born May 1, 1918 in Horry County; a daughter of the late Luther and Helen Coleman Lane. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Atkinson was a graduate of Rains High School. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and the Azalea Garden Club. Mrs. Atkinson was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Atkinson in addition to her husband of 69 years are two sons, David J. (Betty) Atkinson, Jr. of Lexington and Russell G. (Sandra) Atkinson of Charleston; two daughters, Judy A. (Richard) Hunter of Marietta, GA and Janice A. (Richard) Lane of Marion; a half sister, Pansy L. Stanley of Marion; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
