Helen Gessel Olson, 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan, where she had been residing for the past 10 years.
Helen was born January 1, 1919 in Logan, Utah, one of five children born to Emil and Kate Gessel.
On June 17, 1941, she married Clyde L. Olson in the Logan LDS Temple. Helen and Clyde raised their family in Pleasant View, Utah.
Helen attended Utah State University and worked at the Defense Depot Ogden. She worked much of her life in the Real Estate and Insurance business, where she made lifelong and loyal friends. She was very creative enjoying crocheting, ceramics, and quilting. She was an excellent seamstress making beautiful clothing, quilt tops, and décor for her home. Everyone loved her cooking especially her home-baked bread, cinnamon rolls, gingersnap cookies, hand dipped chocolates, and brownies. She wouldn't let you leave her home without taking something freshly baked, dried fruit, or fresh produce from the garden. Her neighbors were the recipients of her generosity as well as her family. Every Christmas she handmade gifts for her grandchildren. She was always found working in her yard and her home was filled with her beautiful roses. It was a common sight to see her on her daily walk through the neighborhood.
Helen was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and participated in local civic affairs.
Helen is survived by two sons, C. Brook (Vicki) Olson, North Ogden; John (Jone) Olson, Centerville; grandchildren, Marci, Kami, Lindi, Angie, Audri, T.J., Jenni, Swede, and her great-grandchildren, Jake, Spencer, Connor, Hunter, Rylie, Alli, Aleah, Marek, Kallee, Piper, and Ryder.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde L. Olson in September, 2000.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.
Friends and family may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
