Sergeant George A. Cline is killed in action in France on August 8, War Department Reports.
Sergeant George A. Cline was killed in action in France on August 8, a telegram from the War Department to his mother, Mrs. Pearl Cline of Newton, received Saturday, announced. The message, signed by Adjutant General J. A. Ulio, was as follows:
"The secretary of war desires me to express his deep regret that your son, Sergeant George A. Cline, was killed in action on August 8 in France. Letter follows."
Sergeant Cline was in charge of a machine gun crew in Motorized Infantry and had been in France since the invasion of Normandy on June 6. He was born at Bogota, October 27, 1918, and had always resided in Jasper county until he entered the Army three years ago. He received much of his training at Camp Livingston, Louisiana. He was employed at the Ohio Oil Company station in Newton before his induction.
Besides his mother, he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Janelle Houser of Newton, Mrs. Eileen Coulter of Grayville and Mrs. Maxine Mascher of Dieterich; his fiancee, Miss Rosalie Tucker of Olney; and many other relatives and friends.
