JULIAN — Mr. Cecil Benford Land, 68, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Land was born in Randolph County on February 9, 1941. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He previously worked as a printer with JP Stevens Corp. and was currently employed as a property manager with Feeney Properties. Cecil was a Cub Scout leader for Troop 365 for over 20 years at Mt. Pleasant UMC and was also very involved with the Moose Lodge. He was past president for District 11, state president of NC Moose Association and had a fellowship degree of honor. He worked with Mooseheart and was very dedicated to charitable functions involving the Moose.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Vora Newnam Land, and sister, Judith Chapman and brother, Harvey Land.

He is survived by his wife, Sherron Brackett Land; daughters, Michelle Maggert and husband, Jeff, of Texas, Julie Smith and husband, Daren, of High Point; sisters, Delorce Land, Marie Burchett, and Catherine Williams and husband, Rev. Henry Williams; brothers, Robert Land and wife, Mae, and Clyde Land and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Matt Maggert, Macy Maggert, Phillip Austin, Jake Maggert, Madeline Maggert, Julianna Dohner and Logan Smith.
