Griffith John Hensley, 81, died unexpectedly at 9:05 Friday morning, Sept. 21, 1973. He was stricken at his home on Route 3, Elkton with an apparent heart attack and was dead upon arrival at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
A son of the late John A. and Fannie Lam Hensley, he was born May 15, 1892 in the Elkton area where he lived his entire life. Mr. Hensley was a member of Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ. He was also a well known farmer and a retired employee of the Norfolk and Western Railroad.
On July 29,1912, he married the former Laura Irene Michael who preceded him in death on Oct. 5, 1970.
He is survived by two children, Marshall R. Hensley of Route 2, Elkton and Mrs. Fern Mims of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Also surviving are four half-sisters, Mrs. Carrie Matthews, Mrs. Gray Rind and Mrs. Gladys Galetto, all of Martinsburg, W. Va., and Mrs. Arbutus Arey of Waynesboro, and five half-brothers, Dallas Hensley of Bridgewater, Frank, Louis and Vincent Hensley, all of Maryland, and Nelson Hensley of Churchville.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ with the Rev. S. E. Madren and the Rev. L. C. Armentrout, Jr. in charge of the services. Burial was in the church cemetery at McGaheysville with the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home handling the arrangements.
