Mrs. Mary Emma Puryear, 82, widow of James Dallas Puryear, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 in South Boston. The daughter of the late Howard J. and Elizabeth Wilkerson Puryear, Mary Emma was retired from Russell Stover Candy Company with over 25 years service. A loving and giving member of Florence Avenue Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School for the children, and served on the Decoration and Kitchen committee. Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday at Florence Avenue Baptist Church with the Reverend Carl Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Virgilina Cemetery. Mrs. Puryear is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mamie and Thomas Keith Tuck of Virgilina; sisters, Pearl Hudson, Bessie Moore and Beulah Crenshaw of South Boston and Addie Lou Rogers of Boydton; brother, Larvester Puryear of Virgilina; and grandchildren, Robert Noel "Bobby" and Alicia Tuck of Oxford, Thomas Keith III and Jennifer Tuck of Nelson. Great grandchildren, Abigail, Madison, Dallas, Savannah, and Emma; nieces and nephews; and special friend, Jill Nelson of Virgilina also survive. She was preceded in death by her sister, Corrie Moore and brothers, Augusta and Howard Puryear.
