From the grandson of Doris Bruce Lawhon Cowart, son of her third child Michael Lynn Cowart. Doris’s birth parents were John Henry Bruce and Edna Drusilla Lawhon, who died four months after giving birth to Doris. At Edna’s insistence, John Henry Bruce allowed Edna’s brother, Isaac Wesley, to adopt Doris. So, while Isaac Wesley was Doris’s father under the law, his blood relationship was actually that of maternal uncle. Doris had a full-blooded sister, Dorothy Bruce Moore, who was raised (at least in part) by John Henry Bruce and was not given up for adoption.
