Mary Meadows-Fortner, 79, of Glen Fork, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009, in Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, following a short illness. Mrs. Fortner was a member of the Glen Fork Church of God. She enjoyed reading her Bible and spending time with her family.

Born January 24, 1930, at Hot Coal, she was the daughter of the late Admiral "Dewey" Meadows (1907-1975) & Georgie Texas Meadows-Meadows (1907-Deceased). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Zinnie "Zina" Fortner (1920-1987) whom she married on June 9, 1946 in Oceana, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1946, Page 3, Application Date: June 4, 1946); two sisters, Francis Meadows-Hise (Deceased) and Doris Meadows-Buckland (Deceased); and a son-in-law, Gary "Beatle" Sutherland (Deceased).

Survivors include four daughters, Zianna "Bump" Fortner-Day & husband, Tommy Day of Beckley, Lexie "Sis" Fortner-Morgan & husband, James Morgan of Glen Fork, Nyoka "Tood" Fortner-Day (Deceased) & husband, Steve Day of Glen Fork and Patricia "Dotch" Fortner-Sutherland (1955-2019) of Glen Fork; three brothers, William Meadows of Hopewell, VA, Leonard Meadows of Lewisburg, WV and Dillard Meadows of Low Moor, VA; three grandsons, Tommy Day Jr., Mike Day and James "Chuck" Morgan Jr.; five granddaughters, Melissa Tilley, Stepheny Day, Angie Shorter, Felisha Sutherland and Patience Day; three great-grandsons, D.J. Tilley, Tommy Day III and Levi Tilley; and five great-granddaughters, Makayla Day, Caitlin Morgan, Sierra Day, Brooke Shorter and Savahanna Day.
