Son of John Mullikin (born Feb. 23, 1750 or 1751, in Prince George's County Maryland, and died in 1837 in Kentucky) who served in the Revolutionary War, and his wife Mary Price (1750-1820).
John Mullikin served in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in Spotsylvania County Virginia, in Feb. of 1776, in Captain Oliver Towle's Company of the 6th Regiment, Continental line, under Colonel Mardecai Buckner. He fought at the battles of Germantown and Princeton, at the Siege of Island Fort, and at the taking of the Hessians at Trenton (per: D.A.R. - Daughters of
the American Revolution). John Mullikin had six sons who fought in the War of 1812.
One of the sons died, and five were wounded. John Mullikin died in 1837, in Kentucky.

James moved from Virginia to Kentucky with his parents in early life, and settled in Shelby County Kentucky. James served in the War of 1812. He enlisted as a Private on Sept. 18, 1812, in the Company of Captain Rowland Burk, commanded by Col. Samuel South, and was discharged on Oct. 30, 1812. He enlisted a second time in 1815. He served under Jackson in the Company of Captain Gillispie.

James's son Hurrum Mullikin served in the Civil War, in Co. F, of the 7th Indiana Infantry,
for three years.
James's son Joseph W. Mullikin also served in the Civil War, in Co. E, of the 7th Indiana Infantry.
Joseph died in the Civil War, on Feb. 27, 1862.

James was married twice. The Mullikin book by Rev. Ridlon Sr. states that James was the father of 19 children, but it only lists 18.

Rachel McGaughey (1788-1825) (incorrectly spelled as "McGaha" in the Mullikin book, by Rev. Ridlon Sr.). Rachel was of Irish extraction, and she died in Shelby County Kentucky.
The children of James and Rachel are:
1. Harvey Mullikin. b. 1809, in Shelby Co. KY. m. Emily A. Tucker, on June 7, 1832. They had nine children. He lived near Nineveh, IN for 24 years, then moved to Piatt County Illinois. d. 1891, in Piatt County Illinois. Buried: Bement (Township) Cemetery, in Bement, Piatt County Illinois.

2. John Mullikin. b. Dec. 19, 1810 in Shelby Co. KY. m. Ella D. Patterson. (2 children). d. Dec. 23, 1869. He lived in Marion Alabama, then in Franklin County Tennessee.

3. Thomas Harvey Mullikin [Sr.]. b. July 29, 1813 in Shelby Co. KY. m. # 1. Sarah Musselman, on
April 11, 1835 (five children). m. # 2. Martha Jane Alexander, on Oct. 29, 1848 (five children).
He lived in Johnson Co. Indiana.

4. Arthur Mullikin. b. July 29, 1816 in Shelby Co. KY. m. Elizabeth Hunter (two children).
d. Oct. 13, 1848, Johnson Co. IN. Buried: Mullikin Cemetery.

5. Warren Mullikin. b. Sept. 16, 1821 in Shelby Co. KY. m. # 1. Elizabeth Patterson.
m. # 2. Susan Patterson. d. Jan. 16, 1860, in Marshall County Tennessee.

m. # 2. Sarah Burton Foree, in 1826 (incorrectly spelled as "Foursee" in the Mullikin book by Rev. Ridlon Sr.). Sarah is the daughter of Silas Foree (1766 - 1859), and his wife Sarah (Beasley) Foree
(1773 - 1839), of New Castle, in Henry County Kentucky. Sarah was the sixth of nine or ten children. Note: There are at least six "Foree Cemeteries" in Henry County Kentucky.

The children of James and Sarah are:

1. Susan Ann Mullikin. b. March 18, 1826, "OR" March 13, 1827, in KY. m. John Tyler Ragsdale, on May 20, 1847, in Johnson Co. IN. They had four children. d. March 23, 1853, aged 26 years, 8 months, and 10 days. (John later married two more times). Buried: Mullikin Cemetery (Section A, Row 6, Stone 10).

2. Nancy B. Mullikin. b. 1828 in Henry Co. KY. d. Feb. 23, 1858, aged 29 years, 6 months, and 18 days. Buried: Mullikin Cemetery (Section A, Row 6, Stone 11).

3. Martha J. Mullikin. b. Oct. 30, 1829 or 1830 in Kentucky. m. David Franklin ("Frank") Featherngill, (1829-1909), on Sept. 13, 1849. He is the son of Joseph Featherngill and his wife Mary Forsyth. David and Martha had nine children: Joseph W, James T., Sarah Jane,
Thomas H., Mary Elvira, Susan E., Charles C., Harry M., and Julia B. Featherngill.
Note: David's parents Joseph and Mary Featherngill also moved their family, from Kentucky to Nineveh township, in Johnson County Indiana about 1829 (as well as the Forsyth family).

5. Sarah Mullikin. b. 1833, in Nineveh, Johnson Co. IN. m. # 1. Mason ("Mace") Kirby,
on Oct. 21, 1852. Mason and Sarah had a son named James Williamson Kirby, who was born March 24, 1853. James married Louisiana ("Lula") Belle Henley. Mason and Sarah were then divorced, on March 18, 1861. m. # 2. Henry Moore (or Mr. Moon?), in March of 1864. Sarah resided with her son James and his family in Indiana in 1870, and in Oklahoma in 1910. d. Jan. 18, 1912, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

6. James Warner Mullikin [Jr.]. b. Oct. 11, 1835 in Johnson Co. IN. m. Catherine Henry Miller. They had eight children. They settled near Franklin, Johnson County Indiana, and then they moved to Champaign County Illinois on Feb. 25, 1862, and then to Douglas County on March 1, 1870, and then settled in Arcola on Feb. 11, 1886. d.

7. William Vickerman Mullikin. b. May 6, 1837 in Johnson Co. IN. m. Martha Milla Snow, on
Jan. 3, 1861. d. 1922, in Johnson Co. IN. Buried: Mullikin Cemetery. They had five children. They resided in Franklin, Johnson County Indiana.

8. Hurrum Prosyth Mullikin. (Incorrectly spelled as "Huron" in the Mullikin book by Rev. Ridlon Sr.). Spelled as "Hurrum" on his headstone. b. Dec. 8, 1839 in Johnson Co. IN.
Hurrum served in the Civil War, in Co. F, of the 7th Indiana Infantry. H. P. Mullikin was a charter member of the G.A.R. Post # 1, at Franklin, Johnson County Indiana on Aug. 28th, 1866.
m. Huldah Ann Mullendore, on Aug. 12, 1869, in Johnson Co. IN. They had eleven children.
d. May 1918, in Johnson Co. IN. Buried: Greenlawn Cemetery, in Franklin, Johnson County Indiana.

9. Joseph W. Mullikin. b. Oct. 17, 1841 in Johnson Co. IN. Joseph served in the Civil War, in
Co. E, of the 7th Indiana Infantry. He enrolled on Sept. 2, 1861, age 19. He died as a Corpl. on Feb. 27, 1862. d. Unmarried, (of measles), on Feb. 27, 1862, in Cumberland, Allegany County Maryland. Buried: Mullikin Cemetery (Section A, Row 6, Stone 2).

10. Elizabeth H. Mullikin. b. April 21, 1843, in Johnson Co. IN. m. William Kerr. They had three children. They lived in Unionville, Indiana. d. Dec. 2, 1912. Buried: Little Union Cemetery, Unionville, Monroe County Indiana.

11. Mary Louise Mullikin. b. 1844, in Johnson Co. IN. m. Robert R. Hunt, on Feb. 18, 1864, in IN. Robert served in the Civil War, in Co. I, of the 18th Indiana Vol. Infantry. Three children: William F., Georgia B., and Frank R. Hunt. They resided in Franklin, Johnson County Indiana. In the 1870 census, Mary's mother Sarah, was living with them. d. 1919. Buried: Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County Indiana.

James and his family had lived in Henry, Trimble, Oldham, and Shelby Counties in Kentucky.

James and his second wife Sarah Burton Foree, and their family, come from Shelby County Kentucky to Johnson County Indiana in 1829 (per Rev. Ridlon Sr.'s book), and settled on Burkhart's Creek (which was named after five Burkhart brothers, who came here from Kentucky in 1822), near Williamsburg (later renamed "Nineveh"), in Johnson County Indiana, and engaged in extensive farming. [Note: The "History of Johnson County Indiana" 1888, by D. D. Banta, states that they came to Johnson County Indiana in 1827].

They were constantly annoyed by wild animals. As the nearest grist-mill was sixty miles away, they pounded, or graded their corn into coarse meal.
James Mullikin was a man of striking appearance and commanding presence. He was of stature full six feet, and weighed 235 pounds. He had a stentorian voice and remarkable physical strength.

James Mullikin Sr. died of typhoid fever on his farm at Buckhart's Creek, near Williamsburg (later renamed "Nineveh"), in Johnson County Indiana, on Sept. 24, 1846, at the age of 58 years.

James Mullikin is buried in the Mullikin Cemetery, in Section A, Row 7, Stone 7, next to his second wife Sarah. They share a headstone.

The Mullikin Cemetery was located towards the back of his farm, on the bluff above Buckhart's Creek, (South of Road 300 South, and West of Nineveh Road), North of Nineveh, in Johnson County Indiana.
