Cynthia was born in either Greene or Jefferson County, TN. She was the youngest child born to James and Hannah Moore. Her mother, Hannah Boring Moore was a distant cousin of Sir Francis Bacon and a descendant of Count Regnault, the Protestant Huguenot leader of France. Her father was James Moore. He served in the Revolutionary War and was with George Washington at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777-1778. At the age of 103, in 1833 he received his pension for this service in the Meigs County portion of Rhea County, Tennessee. Cynthia married John Taff, the oldest child of Peter Taffe, Jr. and unknown on December 19th, 1816 in Jefferson Co., TN.
John and Cynthia were very active members of the Goodfield community and helped establish the Goodfield Methodist Episcopal Church South. Cynthia was a woman of high Christian character.
She and John were the parents of five children:

Cynthia became ill with a lingering illness in mid-1828 and died August 29, 1830.
