Joshua Bradley Sykes, 15, of Bedford, died Friday, Feb. 7th, at the Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis following a lengthy illness.


Born July 10, 1987 in Bedford [ Indiana,] he was the son of Charles Bradley and Katrina J Deckard Sykes.


He competed in Special Olympics and was the [sic reining ] reigning three-year winner of the electric wheelchair race. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ and enjoyed his PlayStation, monster trucks, fishing and riding his Argo.


He is survived by his parents of Bedford; his paternal grandparents, Charles and Bonnie Sykes of Bedford; his maternal grandfather, John Deckard of Bedford, his maternal grandparents Tim and Deanna Zinram of Sunrise, Florida; his paternal great grandmother, Margie Deckard of Bedford; two uncles, Scott and Jeff Sykes; one aunt, Kim Sykes; and one cousin, Kristn Sykes.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents, Everett and Willa Taylor; his maternal great grandfather, Clinton E Deckard; his paternal great grandparents, Carrie and Warner Sykes and Delbert and Zalaya Smith.


Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 11th at the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. The burial was in Green Hill Cemetery.

Cause of death: Anoxic ischemic encephlopathy, tonsillar herniation, cardiac arrest, Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, cardiomypathy.
