Nancy Lee Atwood Nelson, 53, of Pleasant Grove passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 8, 2009 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Nancy was born November 21, 1955 in American Fork to Gay Louise Wickwire Atwood and Lynn "Rick" Atwood. She married Dan Meranda and together had two daughters. They were later divorced. She married Tim Nelson on January 20, 1982 and together had two children.
Nancy would always say those were the best years of her life. Tim passed away in 2003. Nancy graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and later earned a degree in nursing. She worked at American Fork Hospital as a nurse for the Medical/Surgical floor and later in Same Day Surgery for over 20 years. Nancy was a devoted mother and grandmother. She possessed a fierce determination and strength that awed her doctors, caregivers and family. She was the most compassionate and beautiful soul. To know her was truly to love her. Her wickedly funny sense of humor and enthusiasm and passion toward life will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her four children; Kristen (Mark) Meranda McCarty, Holladay; Kaylene Meranda, Provo; T J Nelson, Pleasant Grove; and Tayler Nelson, Pleasant Grove; mother, Gay Atwood, Pleasant Grove; brother, Scott Nielson, Pleasant Grove; and Mark (Nan) Atwood, Pleasant Grove; four grandchildren; Whitney, Taylor, Ian and Aidan McCarty. She was preceded in death by her father, Rick and brother, Dale.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday evening, June 12, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove. A Memorial Service for Nancy will be held Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary with a graveside service to follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to John H. Ward M.D. and Rosemary Conder at the Huntsman Center and Areil Anderson for their kind and loving care of Nancy.
