Ruth Idell Shell Tallent bore many tragedies in her life. She lost her husband, Jesse Tallent, who died from complications of a broken leg. Her son, Omri, was killed in an automobile accident. Her son, Swope, was murdered by a mental patient in E. St. Louis, Il. He son, Will, was killed in a saw mill accident. And two children died young, one choked on dried peas and the other fell into the fireplace an died from the burns. Two years after Jesse's death, Ruth married his brother, John Lossen Tallent. Ruth's cause of death was myocardial degeneration.
