Husband of Sarah J Keltner Switzer.

They had several children: Sarah Ellen, Minnie, and Frank. These three are buried here at Switzer Family cemetery. It is quite possible that descending generations named their children after preceeding generations, perhaps to memorialize ones that died young. Therefore, it is possible that some names have been inadvertently attributed over the years to the wrong parents by those doing research on this family. There could well be multiple uses of the names Sarah and Minnie, leading to confusion.

Any clarifications or mistakes found in the memorials by this contributor will be gladly corrected if notified.

The following obituary is of the daughter Eliza A Switzer Downing. Her daughter, Minnie Belle Downing, evidently died at about one year of age in 1879 and is also buried in this cemetery, presumably to be near her grandparents in death. The obituary for Eliza A Switzer Downing follows:

"The Fairfield Ledger, June 10, 1891, p.3.col.1.
Eliza A., wife of J.M.Downing, at Linn, KS. Deceased was a daughter of Sarah J. Switzer of Buchanan township, this county, grew to womanhood and was married here. She had resided in KS 13 years. Mrs. Downing was in the 40th year of her age. She had been ill for several years with consumption. Leave four children of tender age."

Note: Eliza A Downing was buried at Spiers Memorial Arch Cemetery in Linn, KS. That cemetery is now known as Linn City Cemetery, Linn, Washington County, KS.
