Funeral services for Eaphus M. Murrell, 85, of Anthon, Iowa, were held Thursday, July 11, 1980, at the United Methodist Church, Anthon, Iowa, with Rev. Edward A. Schaller officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, under direction of Walter Funeral Home. Military graveside rites were conducted by the American Legion McNiff Post 496. Mr. Murrell passed away at his home in Anthon on Monday July 7, 1980.
Mr. Murrell was born October 20, 1894, at Lebanon, Missouri, the son of Humboldt and Margaret (Core) Murrell. He moved to Carson and worked there several years. He married Pearl Lewis on February 21, 1918, at Onawa.
He served in World War I in the U.S. Army. He later moved to the Anthon area and farmed. He retired in 1958 and moved into Anthon. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the American Legion, and a 50-year member of I.O.O.F. He was a former rural school board member in Grant and Kedron townships.
Survivors include the widow, two sons, Wayne of Cherokee and Gayle of Sloan, one daughter, Mrs. Clayton (Donna Jean) Cooch of Climbing Hill, one brother, Alfred of Lebanon, Missouri, four half-brothers, Coleman Murrell of Lebanon, Missouri, Earl Murrell, Junior Murrell, and Al Cansal all of Indiana, three half-sisters, Mrs. Melzannie Breakfield and Mrs. Howard (Eve) Lillard both of Carson, Iowa, and Annie Elam of Maryville, Missouri, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, four brothers, one sister and one great-grandson.
