John W. Bratton, 76, Shoals, died at 9:14 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at his residence.

Born March 24, 1933, in Martin County, he was the son of Elkanah P. and Mabel (Girdley) Bratton. He married Shirley Brassine on June 1, 1957, in Shoals and she survives.

He was retired from Summit & Evans Stone Mill as a stone carver.

He was a member of the White River Masonic Lodge No. 332 F&AM, the Shoals American Legion Post No. 61, the Shoals Hanson McFee Post No. 8589 of the VFW, and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

Surviving with his wife, Shirley, of Shoals; are three daughters, Sherry Seals and husband Larry and Cathy Seals and husband Dennis, all of Loogootee, and Carrie Gabhart and husband John of Trinity Springs; one son, John W. Bratton II of Shoals; seven granddaughters, Jill Lake, Tiffany Veilleux, Amber Gilbertson (Derek), Courtney Berkle (Robbie), Emily Bratton, Natalie Gibson and Jenna Gibson; two grandsons, Dustin Seals and Derek Conklin; eight great-grandsons, Tyler, Skyler, and Elija Veilleux, Wyatt Sipes, Zane and Remmington Lake, Brody Gilbertson, and Cale Gibson; two stepgrandsons, Dustin and Brandon Gabhart; two great-granddaughters, Caitlin Veilleux and Bailye Bratton; and three step-great-grandchildren, Gage, Greta and Hallee Gabhart; two brothers, Joe Bratton and wife Linda and Harley Bratton and wife Barbara, all of Trinity Springs; two sisters, Jane Holt and husband Dennis of Henryville, and Margaret Bailey of Speedway; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Bratton; brothers, Lucien and Frank Bratton; and three sisters, Flossie Geraldine Bratton, Pauline Bratton, and Sue Rehl.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Dover Hill Christian Union Church. Burial will follow with military rites by the American Legion Post No. 61.
