Death of an Old Citizen
Mrs. Mahala Beames, who died on Sunday last, and was buried on Monday, was born in Hardin county, Kentucky, in 1817, and was one day over sixty years old at the time of her death. She was a cousin of Abraham Lincoln, their mothers being sisters, and lived in the same neighborhood in Kentucky.
When very young, her parents, as well as those of Mr. Lincoln, removed to Indiana, where the mother and father of Mrs. Beames (her maiden name was Hall) died, and also the mother of Lincoln. From there they removed to Macon county, Illinois, where she was married to William Beames. Shortly afterward, they removed to Burlington, Iowa, where they lived until 1865, when they removed to Andrew county.
She was the mother of eight children, five of whom are living; the oldest being Mr. J.B. Beames, of this city. Her husband William Beames, who still survives her, is in his seventy-third year. She was a member of the Baptist and Christian churches for thirty-seven or eight years. She Leaves a large number of relatives and friends to mourn her loss.

Beames -- On Sunday, October 28, 1877, at 12 o' clock, noon, Mrs. Mahala Beames, wife of William Beames died at 60 years and 1 day.
The funeral of the deceased took place from the Christian Church in this city, the remains being followed to the final resting place in the Savannah cemetery by a large number of relatives and friends.
