OBITUARY: Liberty--Emma Opal Smith, 73, passed away at a Beatrice Hospital this morning.
Born Aug 3, 1885 in Boone County, Iowa, she had lived in Liberty for 48 years.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur A.; three sons, Arlie G. and Lester F. of Beatrice, and Leslie N. of Seattle, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Floy Volle and Mrs. Audrey Fisher of Beatrice, and Mrs. Ruth A. Fisher of Chico, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Moon of Chico, Calif.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church in Liberty. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Laughlin Mortuary, Liberty. (From the Beatrice Daily Sun, June 1, 1959)
ANOTHER OBITUARY: Emma Opal Smith, daughter of Norman and Eudora Butolph was born August 3, 1885 in Boone County, Iowa and departed this life on June 1, 1959 at a Beatrice hospital. She was united in marriage to Arthur A. Smith October 13, 1904 at Boone, Iowa by Rev. James Patrick grandfather of the groom. Seven children were born to this union. One daughter, Myrtle preceded her in death. surviving besides her husband are Mrs. Floy volle, Arlie G., Lester F., and Mrs. Audrey Fisher of Beatrice. Mrs. Ruth Fisher of Chico, California and Leslie N. of Seattle, Washington, a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Moon of chico, California, fifteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.
Her mother and father, one sister and one brother also preceded her in death
she was a kind and loving friend to all.
Services were held at the Christian Church in Liberty of which she is a member, June 4, with Rev. Duane Miller officiating.
Casket bearers were Harlan Pyle, Alvie Moore, Dean Black, Darrell Searcy, Kenneth Maguire and Ralph Powell.
Organist was Mrs. Hardin Searcy, soloist, Ralph Larson. Interment was in the Liberty Cemetery.
When all is done and my last word is said, and ye who loved me murmur "She is dead". Let no one weep for fear that I should know, and sorrow too, that ye should sorrow so.
When all is done, say not my day is o'er and that through night I see a dimmer shore, say rather that my morn has just begun I greet the dawn and a not a setting sun, when all is done.
