Pvt. Paul El George, formerly of Hiawatha, Kansas, has been graduated from this big Army Air Force Technical Training Command School for airplane mechanics, is ready to take his place on the farflung services of this global war wherever the biggest American planes are based, at home or abroad. He has received a course of intensive training to fit him for his important task in this war. His training has also fitted him for an important job in peacetime aviation. In private life, Pvt George was a clerk at Reents shoe store. Gulfport field is producing an endless stream of airplane mechanics to service the biggest bombers, cargo transport planes of the army. Students attended classes in shifts around the clock, every hour, every square foot of space being given the most thorough utilization.

Obituary -

Paul George, 56, prominent Hiawatha businessman and owner of the Reents Shoe Store here, died suddenly at 9:15 Wednesday evening April 29, 1964, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital where he had been admitted a short time earlier. Mr George better known to his friends as "Pooder", was born at Fairview, Kansas, and had lived in Hiawatha most of his life, with the exception of two years spent in Red Cloud, Nebraska, and his service during World War II from 1942 - 1945. He was discharged as a 1st class sergeant. He was a member of the Congregational Church, American Legion, and had served on the local board of education for nine years. "Pooder" had been associated with his brother, Homer Plamann, in the Reents Shoe Store in Hiawatha for 24 years and was a partner in the enterprise for 15 years. Following the death of Homer Plamann in January of this year, he purchased the store from Mrs. Homer (Charlotte) Plamann and her son Marvin. Survivors include his wife, Barbara, one son, Michael, and a daughter, Paula, of the home; two brothers, Keith George of Longview, Washington, and Howard Plamann of Hot Springs, South Dakota; and one sister, Mrs. Richard Ketter of Arvada, Colorado. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian Church at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, May 2, with the Rev. William Llewelyn officiating. Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
