A memorial service for Violet L. Bargabus was held at the White Salmon United Methodist Church May 3. Rev. Willem D. Romeijn officiated.
Mrs. Bargabus died of congestive heart failure May 23 at the Hood River Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 22, 1904 in Eden Township, Clinton County, Iowa to Pearl and William Powell. She married Warren N. Bargabus in Elk River, Minn. on Jan. 24, 1924. Married 64 years, Mr. Bargabus preceded her in death in 1988.
Mrs. Bargabus worked for the Oregon-Washington Telephone Company, the Army Signal Corps, the Civil Aeronautics Administration, the U.S. Postal Service before purchasing the Hood View Hotel in 1958. These various jobs have taken over from White Salmon to New Jersey to Alaska and back to White Salmon. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, Southeast Asia and a freighter trip through the Straits of Magellan.
She was a member of the White Salmon United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, the Hood River Amateur Radio Club and the Columbia Gorge Rockhound Club.
She is survived by her son, Norman Bargabus of White Salmon; sisters, Margaret Oliver of White Salmon, Vivian Sharratt of Ogilvie, Minn.; brothers, Clifford Powell of South Haven, Minn. and Lester Powell of Turner Valley, Alberta, Canada; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Disposition was cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to the White Salmon United Methodist Church in her name or a charity of choice.
