Thomas Virgil Ferguson (Sr.) was born 22 January 1909 in Sycamore, Turner County, Georgia to Wiley Howard Ferguson and Elizabeth Alva Jones Ferguson. In the 1910 Census, they resided in the 1623 Militia District, Sycamore and Irwinsville Road in Dwelling/Family No. 210.
Virgil attended school in Sycamore through grade 10.
He played semi-pro baseball. In May 1927, he went to Cuba, Panama and Ecuador as a student and companion of a geologist. He attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago for 4 months to graduate on 3 December 1927.

Virgil Ferguson married Vida Lewis on 18 August 1934 in Lake County C.J. No. 4602, Book 7, page 127. Witnesses E.H. Richey and Mrs. G.W. Johnson (his older sister). The divorce final decree was on the 17th day of February, 1941 at Bushnell, Sumter County, Florida for Virgil Ferguson, Plaintiff vs. Suzan Vida Ferguson, Defendant. It has been stated Suzan "Susie" Vida Hunter Lewis Ferguson was old enough to be his mother. She was born March 1893. Susan Vida Hunter's first husband was Grover Malcom "Mack" Lewis. They had one son, J.D. Lewis (25 Feb 1909)#65728060 and three daughters, Mary Frances Lewis Conant (1913), Margaret Laverne Lewis Rogge (20 Feb 1914)#101658039 and Etha Mae Lewis Thomas (23 July 1916)#51960487. Virgil and Susan Vida had no children together.

On 15 March 1941, Virgil Ferguson married Eveline Von Herbulis in Leesburg, Lake County C.J. No. 6437. Witnesses G.W. Johnson and Mrs. G.W. Johnson.

Virgil and Eveline V. Ferguson purchased property in Lake County, Florida from T.E. Douglas and Beulah Douglas, his wife of the County of Marion, Florida in the city of Leesburg on 10 February 1942 recorded in Deed Book 197 Page 252.

In 1940 he was employed as a Manager of an Oil Station by W.F. Duggan Sales, Mt. Dora, Florida.
He was a jobber with Howard and Ferguson Shell Oil Inc. as a Distributor for Shell Oil products. He and Percy Howard formed the company. He had a Firestone Store with a Fred Duncan. He and Eveline formed Ferguson Fuel Oil Company and Ferguson Duraclean Company which were operated from their home at 408 North Oakland Street. Later known as 412 North Oakland.

He served in the U.S. Army World War II as a Private #34531153 from 19 November 1942 to 14 September 1944.

He served as Commander of the Leesburg Memorial Post No. 52 during the term 1951-1952. He served as the Exalted Ruler Leesburg Elk Club Lodge #1703 in 1957. He was a Volunteer Fireman 1941-1958 with the Leesburg Fire Department. He was appointed Justice of the Peace, District 10, Lake County, Florida on July 8, 1952. He was re-elected 4 November 1952. He married a number of couples.

He trained bird dogs. Was a hunter of quail and doves. He was a fisherman preferring salt water fishing out of Crystal River to the Gulf of Mexico. He had his own boat, the Miss Carolyn. He learned the waters from going out on a commercial fishing boat.

Mr. Thomas Virgil Ferguson Sr., 69, Leesburg, died Thursday. Born in Sycamore, Ga., he moved to Leesburg in 1934 from Sycamore. He was a retired fuel oil dealer and past exalted ruler of the Leesburg Elks Lodge, past commander of Post No. 52, American Legion, and a retired Leesburg Volunteer fireman. He was a Protestant. Survivors: wife, Mrs. Eveline; sons, Kenneth H., Centreville, Md., and Thomas V. Jr., Clermont, daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Virginia Buras of (Fort) Worth, Texas; sisters, Mrs. Julia Mae Johnson, Orlando, and Mrs. Ruth Larsen, Astatula; two grandchildren.
