Elwood Lee "Peachy" Newhard, 87, of 51 N. Broad St., Ext., Nazareth, formerly of 130 E. 16th St., Northampton, died Saturday in the Coatesville Veterans Administration Hospital. He was the husband of Florence (Trautman) Newhard.
He was a member of the plant patrol at Bethlehem Steel Corp., retiring in 1962 as a sergeant. He also was with the special police in Northampton.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late John M. and Mary Alice (Beil) Newhard.
He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Northampton.
Newhard was an Army veteran of World War I.
A semi-professional baseball pitcher, he struck out Babe Ruth three times.
