There is a family story that a young man - four years her junior, in fact - wanted desperately to marry Alice, however she insisted he have $2000 saved before she would 'say yes'; quite a tidy sum at the turn of the 20th century. But he persevered and on May 31, 1904, Alice Edna Bickell married William T. Mickens. They never had children.
Alice died at age 63 in Northwest Hospital from myocarditis (inflamation of the heart muscle). Alice and Billy had been married for 39 years.
