Maggie was a petite red-head til the day she died. She was the daughter of Emily J. (Fleming) and Edward McGraw; the oldest of their six children. Her family moved from West Virginia to Tennessee, and finally settled in Kansas City, Missouri when Maggie was a teenager. They first appear in the area in the 1870 US Census in Independence, Missouri, a common first stop for wagon trains coming from the east.
On January 2, 1878, she married Charles A. Bickell in Kansas City, Missouri. Their children were
Alice Edna,
Bertha Mae, and
Edward Thomas.
Maggie was widowed at age 71. When Maggie was 86 years old, her daughter, Bertha, passed away and at age 89 her other daughter, Alice, died. Even into old age, Maggie was very independent and strong. She lived on her own until her death, at age 94.
