Marion served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24J #44-40332, 460th Base Unit, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

This B-24 was new and had recently been flown to Hickman Field from the U.S. for eventual deployment. This flight the crew was on was going to Australia for assignment within the 5th Air Force.

He resided in Michigan prior to the war.

Marion died in the "Line Of Duty" when his B-24, soon after take off, only six miles away the bomber failed to make a turn (other sources report a fuel problem) causing the B-24 to crash into Puu Nau ridge near Aiea in Hawaii during the war. The entire crew lost their lives on this flight.

He was originally interred in Schofield Barrack's and was later re-interred here on February 18, 1949.

Memorial Inscription at the Aiea Loop Trail head near Hickam AFB Hawaii:
Along this trail are the remains of a B-24J Liberator Bomber. In the early morning of May 5 1944 2 LT Kimble and crew departed Hickam Field on a replacement mission enroute to the 5th AF. Six miles after take-off, failing to make a turn, they crashed into the Pu'u Uau Ridge Ko'olau Range. All ten aviators perished serving their country.
