PLAINVIEW - Services for Marlene Buss, 82, of Plainview will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jon Meraz officiating and burial in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ashburn Funeral Home.

She died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Plainview Area Health System.

Memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, Plainview Area Health System Foundation or the Plainview Public Library Foundation.

Marlene was born Oct. 23, 1926, at rural Pierce to Fred and Mary (Niemann) Carstens. She was baptized Nov. 14, 1926, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Pierce, and was also confirmed at St John's on June 4, 1939.

She grew up on a farm and attended Pierce County School District 46.

On June 8, 1948, she married Elmer Buss at St. John's Lutheran parsonage near Pierce and lived in Plainview all her married life. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Plainview.

Marlene is survived by her three children and their spouses, Imogene and Dennis Wacker of rural Plainview, Debra and Mark Johnson of Norfolk and Mark and Janice Buss of Seward; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Shawn and Mike Herbek, Jacob, Isaac and Alex of Grand Island, Heather and Lawrence Gowin, Adah and Nicholas of Westminster, Colo., Erin Wacker and fiancé Jon Wilken of Lincoln, Andy Johnson and Sarah Johnson of Norfolk and Nathan Buss and Daniel Buss of Seward; three sisters, Hilda Decker of Clear Lake, Calif., LaVerne Fulton of Glendive, Mont., and Loreen Schreiner of Pierce.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer, in 2004, three brothers and five sisters.
