Longtime educator, school administrator and rancher, Herman Horn, 66, passed away on May 30, 2009 in Frisco, TX. Born December 10, 1942, in Moon, OK, Herman grew up in Moon, graduating from Haworth High School in 1960 before attending Eastern Oklahoma State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. From SOSU, he earned both his B.S. and masters in education and school administration. His passion for teaching, led him to his first teaching position in the Western Heights School District, where he taught social studies. Following his time at Western Heights, Herman also taught social studies in the Mustang School District. In 1972, the family moved to southeastern Oklahoma where Herman began teaching at Foreman, AR and later at Haworth, OK. Eventually, Herman became the Haworth Junior High principal, a position he served in for several years. From 1978 to 1990, Herman served as superintendent for Haworth Public Schools. His work at Haworth was instrumental in expanding the curriculum and adding new school facilities. In 1990, Herman and his family moved to Tupelo, OK, where he assumed the position of superintendent at Tupelo Public Schools. After 30 years as an educator and administrator, Herman retired in 1992. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Herman was an active member of his community, serving on the Board of Directors for the McCurtain Memorial Hospital, Soil Conservation board, Rural Water board, and the Tom Public School board. Also an active member of his church, Herman attended the Tom Baptist Church for 35 years. For the church, Herman served as a Deacon, Sunday School director and Sunday School teacher. Although Herman's professional life was education, many knew him as a cattle rancher. Alongside his father, Herman raised cattle for 40 years. He leaves behind a legacy of passion for education and service to the community. Herman's friends and co-workers will remember him as an honest, resilient person with commitment to finishing whatever he may have started. One of Herman's closest friends suggested that "integrity" was one of his most notable qualities. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Hank and Ermon Horn of Moon, OK and his wife of 45 years, Jacklyn Guest Horn. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Alicia Horn of Sawyer a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Lisa Horn of Frisco, TX a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Brian Bobier of Surprise, AZ and two grandchildren, Megan Horn of Sawyer and Jaxon Horn of Frisco.
