William “Bill” Rodgers Lankford of Sheridan, Arkansas was born January 9, 1932 at Hot Spring, Garland County Arkansas, the son of the late Raymond Franklin and Marie Annie Rodgers Lankford. He was a member of First Landmark Baptist Church in Sheridan for 47 years where he was a part of the Golden Agers. He was a 1950 graduate of Lakeside High School and attended Oklahoma State and Arkansas A&M.

Bill was a Staff Sgt. in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He retired from International Paper Company after 32 years where he was known to his coworkers as “Pap”. Bill belonged to the American Legion Post #30 where he had formerly served as Historian and currently was serving as Chaplain. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club of I.P. retirees, of Moores Lake Hunting Club and a proud member of the Old Codger’s Club which met at the Whippet Restaurant in Prattsville each Thursday. Bill enjoyed horses, flowers, traveling and watching the birds in his back yard. His greatest love of all was God and his family.

Mr. Lankford died Monday, May 4, 2009 at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 77.

Son, Lane Lankford and wife Donna;
Daughters, Leslie Lankford; Laurette Guffy and husband Dave;
Brother, Tim Lankford and wife Linda all of Sheridan;
Sister, Lucille McCroskey and husband Vernon of Hot Springs;
Grandchildren; Hayley, Jacob and William;

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, May 7, 2009 at First Landmark Baptist Church in Sheridan with Bro. Shawn Hill and Bro. John Mooney officiating. Burial will follow in Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday at First Landmark Baptist Church.

Pallbearers are Herman Homishake, Roy Trussell, Joe Johnson, Rob Lankford, Michael Gilbert, Mac Jones, Kelly Stewart and Bruce Russell. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Conrad, Don Moore, Don Massey, Bill Boyce, Herman Fleming, Marvin Brown, Helen Doolin, Porter Pruitt, Bobby Kinney, Duel Simpson, Tony Wiley, Vernon McCroskey, Harvey Gilbert, Floyd Auldridge, and Leo Crouse.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his doctors and nurses of St. Vincent ICU and 3 Northeast for the wonderful care he received.
